CoPower Democratic Gas Budget – Customer Member Top Ideas Update
July 18, 2025
Voting options
August 1, 2025We believe that energy should work in the interests of people, and we’ve been putting the power in our customer members’ hands since we were founded in 2018. One of the ways we do this is by running democratic budgets whereby our customer members vote on where revenue is allocated to have its greatest impact.
Based on our customer member’s request, early this year we launched our gas product, under the strict condition that all revenue from gas would go to help our customer members reduce their energy use, save money and where possible get off gas. We are excited to be launching this budget to determine how this revenue is allocated and how it can best support these aims. You can learn more about our process here.
As we have now reached 750 CoPower gas customer members, there is a total of $15,000 that will be allocated to the top two most popular initiatives over the next 12 months.
What: Democratic Gas Budget vote.
Who: Customer members with CoPower Gas. It will remain open for any new customer members who switch to CoPower Gas before 12:00pm on Friday August 15th.
When: Voting begins 8:45am AEST August 2nd and ends midnight August 17th.
Where: Online via the Election Buddy voting platform (check your email from [email protected])
What are our voting options?
You can read more about the 6 initiatives you can vote towards here.
How do I vote?
Voting is quick and easy. You will receive an email with a link to your unique ballot via Election Buddy platform. Important: Only the top two most popular initiatives will receive funding, with each of the two most popular initiatives receiving half of the $15,000 budget ($7,500 each).
You will receive 10 votes and can allocate them to the most important initiatives that you identify. Please note the initiatives are ordered randomly.
Example: If you identify option A to be the most important, and don’t want any of your votes going to the other options, you could allocate all 10 votes to option A and none to the others. If you identify A and B the best equally, and don’t like any of the others, you could allocate 5 votes to each A and B.
If you are voting via laptop or desktop you select the ‘plus’ sign to add your votes (as per screenshot below). If you are using mobile, you select the space between the minus (-) and plus (+) signs and type in the number of votes you would like to allocate to each initiative.
Is it too late for me to switch my gas account to CoPower Gas and vote?
No! There’s still time! If you add Gas to your account before 12 noon AEST on Friday the 15 August you will be able to vote in this important democratic budget.
Signing up just takes a few mins. You simply add your address, then select ‘existing customer’ and ‘gas’ then follow the prompts as shown in the screenshot below.
Voting opens at 8:45am AEST, Saturday August 2nd and runs for 15 days until midnight Sunday 17th of August – so make sure you vote quickly!
