Pay The Rent Contribution
August 29, 2025Thank you to everyone who took the time to participate in this component of democratising our commons, and also a big thank you to all of our customer members who weren’t eligible or couldn’t vote this time. Cooperative Power and our mission of changing the energy system so that it works for the people would not be possible without your membership regardless of whether or not you have gas, voted, joined an action group or any of our other activities.
The initiative with 836 votes making up 26.45% was the Renters gas solidarity fund, which will receive the full $7,500. This renters solidarity fund will support renters and could include providing grants (such as for Earthworker Ultra efficient hot water and home draught proofing assessments or electrification grants) and coordinating advocacy.
For the first time in our democratic budget history, second place was tied with the exact same number of votes with 542 votes each (17.15% each). We are therefore splitting the $7,500 between both initiatives (and have added $10 of additional funds to round out the individual grants at $470).
