UPDATE: Solar system helps power the Deir al-Sudan Women’s Cooperative in the West Bank
June 6, 2025Goulburn Community Solar Farm nears completion
In 2023 our customer members democratically voted for us to invest $9,000 into this 1.2 mega-watt solar farm development and we’re stoked to see its coming to life!
The Goulburn Community Solar Farm is a cooperative located in the regional city of Goulburn in NSW, 200km South East of Sydney. The cooperative wanted to save money on energy and reduce their emissions, and sought out land near the city for a solar farm that was unusable for agriculture. The found the perfect spot on the outskirts of town along a railway line (image below showing area shaded in red stripes).
You can read more technical information about the solar panels below, and also on the Goulburn Community Solar Farm website.
- Number and type of panels: about 2300 (620 W each)
- Orientation of panels: fixed north facing
- Total DC capacity of farm: 1.4 Mw
- AC output of farm: 1.3 Mw
- Area of land: approximately 2.2 hectares
- Total annual output: 2,400 MWh
In addition to the solar panels, they are also installing a battery so they can sell clean energy back to the grid during high demand times outside of sunlight hours, which otherwise is likely be sourced from burning fossil fuels, and for greater financial returns. The battery can store 4.07 MW.
We’re thrilled to see their steady progress, and are so glad that our customer members voted in our democratic budget to support this project. It’s great to see it’s finally looking like a solar farm with the panels and battery installation nearing completion as of writing in June 2025.
