August 29, 2025At Cooperative Power, we acknowledge the historical and ongoing injustice committed against the First Nations People of Australia. Aboriginal people today still experience the harmful impacts and experiences of colonisation including racism, poorer health, higher incarcerations rates, separation from their communities and Country, suicide rates and more.
While we live and work on stolen Aboriginal Land, we believe that financially contributing towards righting this wrong is one practical step that Australians can take for Aboriginal and restorative justice. We are proud to have done this in the 2024 financial year by having contributed 1% of our total revenue for this purpose through the organisation Pay The Rent.
Pay The Rent transfers this money to Indigenous People and communities for the First Nations People’s self-determination, economic independence and for welfare. This is decided by a panel of First Nations people, and the recipients are prioritised by groups who cannot obtain government funding and who aim to provide sustainable ongoing projects – and are 100% run/owned by First Nations people.
We thank our customer members and our community for enabling this step towards restorative justice. If you would like to learn more about Pay The Rent you can here.
